Kutztown University to Host US Bands Pennsylvania Marching Championships

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - University Field at Kutztown University will be the site of the 2013 US Bands Pennsylvania Marching Championships on Saturday, Oct. 19 beginning at 6:25 p.m. Fourteen of the state's best high school marching bands will be judged on music, color guard, overall effect, percussion and visual ensemble. The Kutztown University Marching Unit will perform in exhibition at 10:30 p.m. immediately followed by the awards ceremony.

Those high schools competing and approximate performing times are:
6:30 p.m. James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre
6:45 p.m. Lampeter-Strasburg High School, Lampeter
7 p.m. Saucon Valley High School, Hellertown
7:15 p.m. Central Bucks South High School, Warrington
7:30 p.m. Cedar Cliff High School, Camp Hill
7:45 p.m. Susquehanna Township High School, Harrisburg
8:30 p.m. Coatesville Area High School, Coatesville
8:45 p.m. Perkiomen Valley High School, Collegeville
9 p.m. Rustin High School, West Chester
9:15 p.m. Council Rock High School South, Holland
9:30 p.m. Pleasant Valley High School, Brodheadsville
9:45 p.m. Nazareth Area High School, Nazareth
10 p.m. Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School, Mechanicsburg
10:15 p.m. North Penn High School, Lansdale

The Kutztown University Marching Unit is comprised of 150 students representing a variety of majors on campus. Under direction of Professor Dan Neuenschwander, the band performs regularly throughout the fall semester at University football games, regional high school exhibitions and parades.

US Bands, formerly known as USSBA, was formed in the Fall of 1988 to provide high school band programs with a competitive circuit featuring the best adjudicators from across the continent and a world class venue for the US Scholastic Band Championship.

Today, USBands boasts membership of over 700 participating high school marching bands. Each year, bands are offered 150 festival opportunities as well as invitations to compete at major Regional Championships and the USBands National, State and Regional Championships. Bands in USbands compete in twelve different classes from Class I A to Class VI Open, performing and competing with other bands of like size and talent.
