KU Announces New Master of Fine Arts in Communication Design

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University announced it will offer a Master of Fine Arts in Communication Design, a first by a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education institution. The MFA is the terminal degree in the visual and performing arts and a one-of-a-kind degree that prepares graduate students for further advancement in their communication design careers and for faculty positions in higher education.
Admission to the program will begin for the Fall 2014 semester.
Designed to be completed in five semesters, with the last semester being an off-campus experience, the program will emphasize personal creative design exploration and professional career investigation. Students enrolled in the program will develop skills that will increase opportunities for employment in new areas of the communication design field and at higher levels of responsibility.
MFA graduates will be trained in new and emerging technologies and will share their knowledge through a thesis exhibition as well as teaching and/or working in the design field and community.
Students can utilize electives to take advantage of the strong programs in Communication Design and Art Education and can broaden their skills by taking courses in Product Design, Jewelry Design, Printmaking, Painting, Wood Design, and Fibers as well as Drawing, Sculpture, and Photography and in related academic areas, including English and computer science.
Kutztown University's central location is advantageous for students, who will have the opportunity to attend conferences, lectures, presentations and shows in New York City, Philadelphia, Allentown, Bethlehem and Reading.
KU is home to more than 10,000 students, both undergraduate and graduate, in the university's four colleges - Education, Business, Liberal Arts & Sciences and Visual & Performing Arts. There are 1,008 students enrolled in the College of Visual & Performing Arts.
