KU Department of Music to Host Brass Day 2012
Oct. 17, 2012
KUTZTOWN, P.a. - Kutztown University's Department of Music will host its annual Brass Day on Thursday, Nov. 8 in the Georgian Room of Old Main. This renowned event is open to any high school age brass players, public school teachers, or private studio teachers interested in the various opportunities related to all things brass. Brass Day 2012 will feature several prominent guest artists, such as the members of the U.S. Air Force Band (Washington, D.C.) Ceremonial Brass Quintet, and will also include a presentation by "K.O." Skinsnes from Stomvi USA.
The special presentation, "K.O." will be offered during the day for students and again in the evening for any brass players unable to attend the day session. Students are strongly encouraged to attend this presentation, as Skinsnes has done a phenomenal amount of research looking into the physics of the trumpet (and all other brass instruments) by looking at the importance of having a properly fitted mouthpiece into one's instrument.
Brass Day 2012 will begin with on-site registration and check-in at 8 a.m. in the Georgian Room of Old Main. Students will perform in a massed brass choir, listen to masterclasses and performances by members of the USAF Band Ceremonial Brass Quintet, as well as Kutztown University's very own talented faculty members. Students are advised to pre-register online for only $20 (walk-in registration is $25), which is payable at the venue. This small fee covers lunch, dinner and a t-shirt.
During this event, there will be a free, public performance by the USAF Brass Quintet at 7:30 p.m. in the Georgian Room of Old Main. Please note that only registered attendees will be guaranteed a seat.
