Kutztown University Celebrates 'Five Days of Thanksgiving'

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Dr. Joseph Piscitelli, retired KU faculty and Kutztown resident, has revived the late Dr. Arnold Newman's pre-Thanksgiving community and worship event and transformed it into a five day celebration. The five community events arranged by Piscitelli combines the efforts of the university and local ministries with the aim of providing the Kutztown community an opportunity for a unified Thanksgiving experience.
The 'Five Days of Thanksgiving' celebration kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 5 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Multipurpose Room (218). President Javier Cevallos and Mr. Kevin Snyder, president of the Kutztown Borough Council, will welcome attendees. The KU Brass Choir, directed by professor Dan Neuenschwander, and the Kutztown Community Choir, directed by J. Richard Wagner and conducted by Michael Barron, will perform.
On Monday, Nov. 25, from 7 to 8 p.m., the KU Jazz Combo will perform at St. Paul's United Church of Christ (UCC) in Kutztown (47 South Whiteoak Street).
On Tuesday, Nov. 26, David Miller will perform at 7 p.m. in the 2nd floor of the Kutztown Tavern (272 West Main St.) and KU vice president of administration and finance Jerry Silberman will speak.
On Wednesday, Nov. 27, St. Paul's UCC (47 South Whiteoak Street) will host a clothing and food drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The five day event culminates with a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. John's UCC (257 West Walnut Street).
Admission to each event is a 'free-will' offering of non-perishable food and/or winter outwear. Donated items will be redistributed throughout the Kutztown community by Friend, Inc. and the Kutztown University Women's Center.
