Nov. 16, 2012

Kutztown, Pa -Kutztown's  Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center hosts "Christmas on the Farm" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Dec. 8.

Christmas on the Farm will feature folklife demonstrations, traditional crafters and vendors, and children's crafts and activities including basket-making, ornament-making and more.

New at Christmas on the Farm is cider and cookies by their warming bonfire, alongside various interactive programs.  Events include: wreath-making demonstration, a lecture on the customs and traditions associated with a PA Dutch Christmas, a feather tree demonstration and information session, a discussion of the pre-Christian holiday of Yule - and its similarities to Christmas, and visits from the Belsnickel.

For the first time at Christmas on the Farm, Die Nei Dulpehhock Sanger Chor (from BCTV's show, The Pennsylvania German Hour) will perform a holiday concert in the schoolhouse at noon.

The Old Time Plow Boys will be cooking up some goodies to purchase, along with displaying antique tractors and farm equipment. The Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen is sure to delight with various talented artists demonstrating and selling their wares in the Guild Cabin. This will be your opportunity to get the best handcrafted gifts for your loved ones.

Also-don't forget to stop at the welcome tent for your program of the day's events and to purchase one of our 2013 PA Dutch Calendars - normally $12, but available for a discounted price of $10 at Christmas on the Farm only.

The grounds will be dressed in their holiday best, perfect for getting you into the holiday spirit! But, be sure to be on your best behavior and keep an eye out for the Belsnickel! He'll have treats for the good children, but bad kids beware.
