KU Professor Presents African Art Collection
March 4, 2014
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to join KU professor of history Dr. Christine Saidi for a presentation and tour of "Bold Mamas and Audacious Entrepreneurs," a collection of African art that showcases the central role of women within various African societies, at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 12 in Rohrbach Library.
During the tour, Saidi will give a presentation that juxtaposes the history and significance of the paintings, fabrics and sculptures with her own experiences. Saidi, who has assembled her vast art collection via ten trips to Africa, has published a book and several articles on the role and status of women in early African societies.
The exhibition, collected by Saidi, was curated by Rhonda York and Rebecca Vanhorn. For more information, please contact librarian Bruce Jensen at firstname.lastname@example.org, or refer to the exhibit's brochure at www.kutztown.edu/library/events/info/boldmamas.pdf.
