KU Jazz Ensembles to Present 10th Annual Big Band Bash
March 31, 2014
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Kutztown University Department of Music Jazz Studies Program will present the 10th Annual Big Band Bash on Friday April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium.
The event features KU Jazz Ensembles I and II, conducted by director of Jazz Studies Dr. Kevin Kjos. Putting on an old-fashioned battle of the bands, KU's two jazz ensembles will perform music from the time when swing was king and the bands of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, the Dorsey Brothers, Harry James, and Benny Goodman competed for supremacy. Pieces to be performed include "Pennsylvania 6500," "In the Mood," "Sing, Sing, Sing," "String of Pearls," "a Tisket a Tasket" and many more. Dancing and singing along is encouraged.
Reserved seating is required. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children 17 and under and $5 for Kutztown University students with ID.
A preconcert picnic will be held at 6 p.m. in the Richard G Wells Rehearsal Hall. Tickets for the picnic include premium concert seating and are available at $30 for adults, $15 for children under 17 and $12 for Kutztown University students with ID. These tickets must be purchased before April 4.
Tickets are available at the Information Desk of the McFarland Student Union (cash or check only) or online at kutztownpresents.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door should any remain available. Individuals needing special assistance please call 610-683-4550. Proceeds from this popular concert are used for Jazz Studies scholarships, recordings and tours.
