Presentation on trans woman and her journey of faith
March 4, 2013
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University hosts a presentation by Reverend Barbara Peronteau on Wednesday, March 6, at 3 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Alumni Auditorium (183).
A graduate of Union Theological Seminary in Virginia and an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, Rev. Peronteau has served congregations in Colorado, Ohio and Pennsylvania. In 2010, she began her gender transition and will share her experience as a trans woman and a person of faith with the KU community.
Peronteau is active with the evangelism committee of her home church, Calvary UCC in Reading, Pa. and involved with a variety of discussion panels concerning the transgender experience. She is a member of the Mercersburg Society, Pennsylvania Southeast Conference Coalition for LGBT Concerns, United Church of Christ Coalition for LGBT Concerns and serves on the council of the Yes! Coalition. Recently, she participated in the annual "Freedom to Marry" service at Lehigh Valley's Metropolitan Community Church.
By sharing her own experience as a trans woman and a person of faith, Peronteau is helping get the word out that transgender people exist and that faith can be a significant part of their lives.
