Jazz Ensembles perform big band swing era music

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University's Department of Music, Jazz Studies Area, presents the ninth annual Big Band Bash on Friday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Multipurpose Room.

This event features KU Jazz Ensembles I and II, conducted by director of Jazz Studies Dr. Kevin Kjos. The evening will feature music made famous by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, the Dorsey Brothers, Harry James, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and many more WWII-era bands. Guests are invited to dance the night away in front of the bands reminiscent of a ballroom during the big band era.

Special guests will include Harry James, vocalist Cathy Chemi and trumpeter Skip Stine.  Joe Piscitelli returns as Master of Ceremonies.

All tickets include dessert and beverage and are $15 for general admission, $25 for premium table seating and $10 for KU students with ID. Tickets are available for purchase online through KU Presents, by calling 610-683-4092, or at the door on the evening of the performance. The KU Foundation and Alumni Engagement will host a pre-concert reception at 6 p.m., in the President's Room of the McFarland Student Union Building. Tickets are $50 per person and include heavy hors d'oeuvres, entertainment, a meet-and-greet with guest performers Cathy Chemi (vocals) and Skip Stine (trumpet), table seating for the show, and dessert.
