KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Kutztown University Orchestra will present its second concert of the season on Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public. The concert will feature two KU Concerto Competition winners, Julia Costacurta (violin) who won the high school division and Mary McCormick (soprano) who won the college division.

Costacurta is a student of Timothy Schwarz and has performed in master classes with David Kim and Domenic Salerni. She was winner of the 2013 Tirone Award for Techne Music and received honorable mention in 2012 and 2013 for the Voorhees Competition in Allentown. She will perform the first movement of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor

McCormick is a senior at Kutztown University and a student of Trucilla Sabatino. She recently sang the role of "Gianetta" in L'Elisir d'Amore with the Berks Opera Workshop and won first place in the "Song and Aria" division at the 2012 Lehigh Valley NATS competition. She will sing two Mozart Arias with KUO.

In addition to the two soloists, the concert program includes Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 and Respighi's Pines of Rome

Philadelphia Orchestra trumpet Anthony Prisk will work with the KUO brass in a special seminar, and brass students from as far away as the University of Massachusetts have auditioned to play in the off stage brass ensemble. The orchestra also invited some of the most talented string players from the Lehigh Valley to join the KUO, who come from Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Stroudsburg.
