Dr. Kunal Das Selected as a Scholar for Prestigious Physics Institute
Feb. 7, 2012
Kutztown University associate professor of physical sciences Dr. Kunal Das has been selected as a scholar for the Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics (KITP) in Santa Barbara for 2012 to 2014.
It is one of the most prestigious institutes for physics in the world, and is headed by Nobel Laureate, David J. Gross. This was a nationwide competition and only eight physicists are chosen every year.
The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics has established a program of visiting researchers in theoretical physics. The purpose of this program is to support the research efforts of faculty at American colleges and universities that are not major research institutions. Applicants from non-Ph.D.-granting institutions and from institutions with greater emphasis on teaching are particularly encouraged. Ongoing research activity is also a criterion.
Each award funds a total of three round trips and up to six weeks of local expenses, to be used over a period of up to three years. Through 2011, there have been less than 100 chosen selected for this honor.
The KITP is a leading and notable scientific research facility where theorists in physics and allied fields work together intensely on questions arising from investigations of science. KITP has routinely attracted the best scientists not only from the United States, but from around the world to formulate and participate in programming. As a result, KITP has become the foremost international center for evolving theory in science.
