German Cultural Heritage Center: Harvest Fescht Date Set for 9/22

Kutztown, Pa. - Experience Pennsylvania Dutch folklife, music, traditional crafts, children's activities, wagon rides, interactive displays, demonstrations, and much more at Harvest Fescht on Saturday, September 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University.

There will be hearth-cooking, sauerkraut-making, hex sign-painting, and wool and flax spinning demonstrations. Hands-on children's activities include the interactive old-time clothes-washing display, butter-making station, and pumpkin painting.

At 2 p.m., local sensation Keith Brintzenhoff will perform a selection of Pennsylvania Dutch music at the Schoolhouse.

New this year, the Fescht features book signings with three local authors. The center is delighted to present Robyn Jasko, author of "Homesweet Homegrown," Alice Reinert, author of "From Pennsylvania Dutch Farm to Queen of the Funnel Cakes," and Patrick Donmoyer, with the inaugural volume of the Cultural Center's "The Friend in Need: An Annotated Translation of an Early Pennsylvania Folk-Healing Manual." 

Additionally, the Fescht features The Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen, who will demonstrate their crafts, and The Old Time Plowboys Club, who will display farming equipment. Also available at the welcome tent are the 2013 Pennsylvania Dutch Calendar and Patrick Donmoyer's "The Friend in Need."
