14th Annula Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Undergraduates from five Berks County universities and Rutgers University will showcase their research at the 14th Annual Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Kutztown University. Sessions will run from 9 - 10:45 a.m. and 12:15 - 3:30 p.m. Check-in and registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Academic Forum building.
Research topics include:
- The Underground Railroad in Berks County
- Sport consumer motivation
- Literary curriculum in secondary education
- Vincent Van Gogh's legacy
- Child labor in Pennsylvania Coal Mining
- The Amish and Mennonite school system
- Geography and History
- Animal behavior Research topics are presented as paper and poster presentations.
There will also be musical, theater and poetry performances, as well as art and photography exhibits. The keynote speaker, KU alum Kristen Pedemonti '89, will give her presentation at 11 a.m. in the Academic Forum. An award-winning international storyteller and TED Talks talent search finalist, Pedemonti connects audiences to culture through her powerful storytelling. She performs worldwide at festivals, universities, schools and special events, to share tales of hope, understanding and joy. Her passion is fueled by connecting cultures to remind us all of our common humanity. In 2005, Pedemonti sold her home and possessions to create and facilitate the volunteer project 'Literacy Outreach Belize.' Since then, she has donated programs for 33,340 youth and trained 800 teachers in how to use their own cultural stories in the classroom. Her book, "Building Bridges Between: Connecting Culture, Classrooms & Communities," is slated for publication in 2013. Later this year, she will travel to Poland for TEDx Warsaw & Storytelling Festival and to Kenya, as a featured storyteller.
This conference is presented by the Higher Education Council of Berks County, comprised of Albright College, Alvernia University, Kutztown University, Penn State Berks and Reading Area Community College.
