Grammy Award Winner Janis Ian Performs for KU Presents!
April 16, 2013
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - From "Society's Child" to folk icon, Janis Ian, an artist for all time, performs at KU's Ursa Minor's Café on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments.
Since her break-out hits of the Sixties ("At Seventeen" and "Jesse") Ian's incredibly personal songs of social change rank her with Bob Dylan, as the voice of a generation. Counted as one of the great songwriters in America today, reviewers have called her live performances "overwhelming to the spirit and soul," and "drenched with such passion, the audience feels they've been swept up in a hurricane."
Most recently, at the 2013 GRAMMY Awards, Ian beat out First Lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, political commentator Rachel Maddow and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to win the "Best Spoken Word Album." Ian narrated her nonfiction book, "Society's Child: My Autobiography," for the win.
Please join KU Presents! and this GRAMMY-award winning artist at Ursa Minor's Café for an intimate performance.
Ian will conduct a free workshop and book signing on Monday, April 22, at 3 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Multipurpose Room (218). The workshop, entitled "The Art of Embracing Failure or How Failure Sometimes Gets You to the Place of Your Dreams," is open to the public.
Tickets for the evening performance as well as clips, previews, and additional information, are available at www.KutztownPresents.org.
