The Daily Brief

 SECA Campaign

KU colleagues have already pledged over $5000 toward the charity of their choice through SECA.  This puts us at over 20% of our goal.  I urge all to consider using SECA for your charitable giving. With more than 1,000 charities to choose from, it's easy to support your favorite causes through the State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA).  This year, through the new leadership giving program, employees will be recognized for giving at the Gold level, equal to a half hour of pay per month, and the Governor's Circle level of one hour of pay per month.  Read more about leadership giving

Watch this week's video to learn more about leadership giving and ways to pledge, from SECA Campaign Chair Secretary of Banking & Securities Glenn Moyer and Campaign Co-Chair Secretary of General Services Sheri Phillips.   Pledge now through ESS (for payroll pledges only) or using a paper pledge form, and check out the list of participating SECA charities in the resource guide.  Completed paper pledge forms should be returned to the Human Resources Office in the Kemp Building  Thank you for your support!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

To create awareness about this issue, which on campus is called Interpersonal Relationship Violence, KU welcomes the Berks Women in Crisis (BWIC) Silent Witness Project display in the KU Old Main Concourse, Oct. 1 noon through Friday, Oct. 4 and Monday, Oct. 7 and Tuesday, Oct. 8. This emotional visual display clearly illustrates the impact of domestic violence by using life-size red silhouetted figures. Each figure represents a Berks County murder victim who died at the hands of a batterer. Each one bears a gold shield which tells the individual's story. To view an electronic version of the Silent Witnesses, click here. In addition, local and national resources will be available. The Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Women's Center will be collecting non-perishable food, paper supplies, baby and children's items, cleaning supplies, bath towels, and personal care items for BWIC's Safe House residents.  Please invite your students, friends and community members.
