The Daily Brief



The Kutztown University Marching Unit had a busy weekend representing KU.  They traveled to California, Pa. on Saturday to cheer on the Golden Bears followed by an exhibition performance at Somerset High School in Somerset, Pa.



Encourage your students to consider applying to be the undergraduate or graduate commencement speaker.  Application Deadline:  Friday, October 18, 2013.  In order to be considered for this distinction, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements: 

•·         be cleared to participate in the fall 2013 commencement ceremony
•·         have a grade point average at or above 3.0
•·         demonstrate service to the university community and a record of good university citizenship and cooperation
•·         demonstrate evidence of meaningful co-curricular involvement
•·         be in good disciplinary standing
•·         have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 entering the fall 2013 semester,
•·         demonstrate service to the university community and demonstrate a record of good university citizenship and cooperation
•·         be in good disciplinary standing.

Each candidate must submit a completed application here. Finalists will be chosen to participate in an interview process to determine the candidate of choice who will be expected to provide a brief address (approximately 3-5 minutes) at the fall 2013 Commencement ceremony.

I am saddened to let the University Community know of the passing of the father of Jerry Schearer, Associate Dean of Inclusion and Outreach.  I am sure that Jerry would appreciate your expression of condolences.  At this time, Jerry is in West Virginia attending to family matters.

9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Disability issues in Student Affairs areas:  Admissions, Residential Life, Health and Wellness, Counseling, Judicial Affairs, Recreational Services, and more.
11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Accommodations in the Classroom and Accessible Technology in the University - IT and Online classes- what do we need to do?
These sessions promise to be informative, with great examples and opportunity for questions.
Disability Services 

The Kutztown University Honorary Degree Committee
is currently seeking nominations of distinguished individuals for the award. Honorary degrees are granted to men and women who have made outstanding contributions to the welfare and improvement of their community, region, Kutztown University, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States or to humanity at large.  Please contact John Ronan ( for further information about the degree and for official nomination forms. The committee will be meeting to consider the nominations on November 14.  

 The KU Philosophy Club will meet next on Thursday, Sept. 19, 11 a.m. in MSU [SUB] 323.  Joshua Steinberg will be speaking on Zeno's Reality: What to conclude from Zeno's paradoxes
