KUMU

The Kutztown University Marching Unit (KUMU) will host the US Bands Pennsylvania Marching Championships tomorrow on University Field. Fourteen of the state's best high school bands begin competition at 6:25 p.m. The event will end with an exhibition performance by KUMU around 10:30 p.m. Volunteers are still needed to make our guests feel welcome. ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

We are saddened to inform the university community of the sudden passing of Jeff Unger on Wednesday. Jeff was the contracted university photographer for the past 25 years and worked with the KU family on a regular basis. Family and friends will be received tonight at Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown, PA from 6-8:30 p.m. Funeral Services are tomorrow, Oct. 19, beginning with a viewing from 11 - noon followed by the service at Christ DeLong United Church of Christ, 65 Old Bowers Road in Bowers, Pa.  Interment will be private.  

 


 

The University Curriculum Committee (UCC) will meet on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 11:00 am, in MSU 157, to consider the curricular proposals on its October agenda, which can be found online at http://www.kutztown.edu/committees/ucc/agenda.html. As always, individuals and/or departments with proposals on the agenda are invited and encouraged to attend to answer any questions that may arise. Thank you.

You may choose to work with fellow members of the KU community to participate in a Community Clean Up, write letters to the military serving overseas,  make inspiring give-aways for pediatric patients, make bookmarks for children to inspire them to read, or make bird feeders for senior citizens centers. Eckhaus is happy to present a special limited edition of The Freemartin Calf film screening this Saturday Oct. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. It will be located at Eckhaus 157 West Main St. The film was created by Jane Amara Ross and Frederic D. Oberland and it includes original script and soundtrack.

 

The film relates a day in the life of a young girl and her mother as they brave two very separate realities governed by the desire to both reject, and conform to, the societal roles imposed upon them.

Bassist and Composer KU Department of Music faculty member Scott Lee will be performing Monday Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in Schaeffer 14G (the small rehearsal room with the glass wall in the back of Schaeffer) with Cloning Americana, a group comprised of some of the nation's premiere musicians. Included in the ensemble are Billy Drewes, woodwinds; Jeff Hirschfield, percussion; and Gary Versace, piano. This ensemble has a recently released CD on Steeplechase Records that has received glowing reviews. Please join us for an hour Monday afternoon to hear this fabulous group. The Kutztown University Council of Trustees will hold a regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Stratton Administration Building, room 301.

The Kutztown University football team hits the road tomorrow to take on PSAC East foe Shippensburg. You can follow all of the action on WEEU radio 830 AM beginning at 12:45 p.m.    The broadcast will also be streamed live on the web at kubears.com. Cheer on the Golden Bears as they go for their second straight win!
