Benjamin Jealous, the former president and chief executive officer of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), will present the lecture "We Got What We Fought for, But Lost What We Had" Friday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium.  The event is free and open to the public; however, tickets are required.  Tickets can be obtained by calling the KU Box Office at 610-683-4092 or visiting KUPresents.org.  For a complete description click here.

Are you an expert on the Beatles?  The Reading Eagle would like to interview someone who can discuss why the Beatles remain an enduring part of our pop culture.  We are also looking for a current student who may be a Beatles fan.  

Are you a marketing/advertising expert?  The Reading Eagle would like to interview someone during this weekend's "Big Game" to discuss which ads you feel were effective and which were not.  The interview would most like occur around halftime and they would look for a list of your top 5 and bottom 5.

Attention faculty and staff:  Interested in University Service? The Spring Willingness to Serve process begins next week. There are 64 positions to be filled covering a variety of constituencies. In preparation for willingness, consider visiting the Senate website (http://www.kutztown.edu/admin/usenate/) to discover all the committees the university has to offer. On Friday, Feb. 7, the link to the online willingness submission form will be made available via the Daily Brief and email. Spring Willingness will close on Friday, Feb. 28. The Committee on Committees will deliberate appointments in March for Senate to consider at its April 3 meeting. Pending Senate's approval, the appointments will be made available on the Senate website beginning April 4.

College of Visual & Performing Arts Faculty First Thursday!  Cheryl H. Hochberg, Department Chair of Fine Arts, will present "The Care and Feeding of the Creative Spirit".  On Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Sharadin Arts Building Room 120.  Cheryl Hochberg will talk about; many arts students struggle to find their creative "voice".  In the midst of that struggle it is hard to imagine that staying creative can be as hard as being creative; an artist's studio practice that is not actively kept fresh soon becomes stale.  In her talk, Cheryl Hochberg will discuss the Variety of ways she keeps her creative life vibrant, including the learning of new materials and techniques, travel, and collaboration.

The Department of College Readiness is pleased to announce the 2014 CONNECTIONS Orientation dates. Transfer Student Dates:  April 25, May 22, June 11, June 25 and July 18.  Freshmen Orientation Dates: June 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20, 23, 24, and 26.  An optional parent program is offered for first-time freshmen families which coincides with the freshmen cycle dates. CONNECTIONS is a one-day mandatory orientation for all new freshmen and transfer students.

Kutztown University Radio has been nominated by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) in New York City for their prestigious "trophy awards" in the following categories.

•·         Best Station Contest/Promotional Event (Battle of the Bands on the DMZ last spring)

•·         Best Use of Social Media

•·         Best University/College Station (Schools with less than 10,000 students)

The award recipients will be announced in March.  Congratulations to KUR!

 


 

This week's MSU Movie Series film is Captain Phillips which will be shown in the McFarland Student Union Alumni Auditorium on Friday at 8 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM and 8 PM. Admission is free! Check out the MSU movie website for more information.
