SALUTE:  A Veterans Services Message to Honor Military Families

As April comes to a close and we prepare for May, we wanted to remind all to do something special for a military child and spouse.  April is the month when we celebrate the strength and resilience of military children; a month when we say thank you for the sacrifices they make for their service member parents. Because military children serve too, we want to highlight the great resources Military OneSource offers for children, youth and teens to help them thrive at all ages.  These resources can be used throughout the year, not just in April.  Source: Military OneSource, http://www.militaryonesource.mil/monthly-focus?month=april|year=2014  Almost everyone notices the honorable jobs done by our military on a daily basis, but it is far too often that their spouse's perseverance and resilience goes unnoticed.  The Friday before Mother's Day in May has been declared Military Spouse Appreciation Day, which originated in the United States in 1984. United States President Ronald Reagan wanted to create a day to recognize the service, contribution and sacrifices made by spouses and their family. Although it is not a popular and well-recognized holiday, each U.S. President takes the time to acknowledge the day with a ceremony and speech.  Source:  http://militarybenefits.info/national-military-appreciation-month/
