Summer Chamber Music Festival

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:

2012KUSMFCollage1Kutztown University is pleased to announce the 2013 Summer Chamber Music Festival from June 23rd - 30th, 2013. For those of you who participated in our festival last year, we would like to extend our appreciation for your talents and hard work! Thank you for creating some of the most enjoyable performances at Kutztown University during the summer of 2012!

As in past summers, we are offering instruction on piano, strings, winds, and percussion instruments. The festival will feature Kutztown University's own faculty:

  • Maria Asteriadou (piano)
  • Susanna Loewy (flute)
  • Will Rapp (percussion)
  • Valerie Trollinger (bassoon)
  • Kim Webster (oboe)

Guests artists includes

  • Anton Miller (violin; Associate Professor, The Hartt School)
  • Kurt Nikkanen (violin; concertmaster, New York City Ballet Orchestra)
  • Rita Porfiris (viola; Associate Professor, The Hartt School)
  • Peter Sanders (cello; New York City Ballet Orchestra)

The festival offers a full week of intensive study to ambitious high school and college age musicians, including daily private lessons and chamber music coaching. The participants will have the opportunity to work on solo repertoire, learn and perform works from the core chamber music literature, and receive instruction on audition preparation. In our planning for 2013, we are pleased to announce the addition of a chamber orchestra and a concerto competition for the participants of the Festival. The winners will have the opportunity to perform in the final concert with the orchestra. We are also pleased to offer Flute Choir this year.

A wide variety of seminars, such as: workshop on The Art of Performing, workshop on Memorization, seminar on The Business of Music, as well as a Theory and Composition workshop, will be presented.

Students will be accepted upon the recommendation of their major teacher or by submitting a CD or DVD of their recent playing. The Festival will offer a limited number of merit and need-based scholarships. A CD or DVD is required for scholarship consideration.  You may also send us a YouTube link through the application form.

The application deadline is extended until all spaces are filled. There is a non-refundable application fee of $50.
