McFarland Student Union
The McFarland Student Union provides many services and programs to enhance the academic engagement and experience for students, staff, faculty, and guests to the university. With over 99,000 square feet of space, an average traffic count of over 7,000 guests per semester weekday, and well over 3,000 events per year, the Student Union Operations Office is charged with providing support for the needs of students and the co-curricular activities that enhance their KU experience.
The Bear's Den Coffeehouse, Java City, features a coffeehouse environment to showcase student talent. Students can showcase their artwork in three Art Gallery locations: the Student Union Art Gallery, Brick Wall Gallery and Corner Gallery. There is a relaxing atmosphere in the Cyber Lounge to surf the net. The Cub Café Snack Bar features Chick-Fil-A, Burger Studio and other casual meals to bring students, faculty, and staff together on a daily basis for food fun and interaction in a comfortable atmosphere. The union prides itself on being a well-rounded facility that offers students and staff many opportunities for formal and informal involvement and services.
The Union also features a 239 seat auditorium, student government board office, campus radio station, computer lab, KU Card Office, outdoor seating space, renovated and expanded food service area , and six meeting rooms. In addition, the student union has several lounges including a fireside study lounge, the Bear's Den and Art Gallery lounges, and a commuter, adult, and veteran student common lounge - a convenient resource and relaxation spot. It also houses a credit union and the university bookstore. The union is also home to many administrative offices and student organization offices.
