General Instructions for Ushers

Before the Ceremony

Please wear appropriate attire. Examples for women include dresses, dress slacks or skirts and blouses. Examples for men include a dress shirt and tie with dress slacks or a suit. Please wear comfortable shoes, but no sneakers. Outside door ushers should wear jackets as dictated by the weather.

Ushers will not be permitted to park in the lots by the Recreation Center and Fieldhouse (E1 and E2).  The best place to park is in lot A2, where ushers can take a shuttle to the Recreation Center.  Ushers may also park in parking lot F6 with overflow to F1 behind the Administration Center.

Report to Keystone Hall, Classroom 108, by 7:00 a.m. for the morning ceremony and by 12:00 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony, where you will pick up your name badge. AFSCME and SUA ushers need to sign overtime slips, as well.

Keystone Hall Room 108 is reserved as a hospitality room throughout the day. Refreshments will be available beginning at 6:30 a.m. and ushers will be able to store their belongings in a secure area.

You must be in your assigned position by 7:30 a.m. for the morning ceremony and 12:30 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony.

During the Ceremony

Doors open for guests at 7:30 a.m. for the morning ceremony and 12:30 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony.

Everyone must have a ticket to enter the Fieldhouse. The Door Usher Coordinator will be the main contact for the ushers who collect tickets at the door. Any ticket question should be directed to that Coordinator.

The VIP seating area is on the front left side of the seating area.

The accessible seating area is on the front right side of the seating area.

Medical personnel are located in the back right side of the seating area.

Pre-ordered flowers from Jackie & Daughter Flower Shops are to be picked up at their table located in the back left of the Fieldhouse. Flowers can also be purchased at this location throughout the commencement ceremony.

Guests are encouraged to use the outdoor restroom trailers to avoid congestion in Keystone Hall; however, guests may use the designated Keystone Hall indoor restrooms. PLEASE DO NOT DIRECT GUESTS TO THE BATHROOMS IN THE RECREATION CENTER.

Food and beverages are available in the Recreation Center for guests to purchase .

The procession line-up will begin to form at 8:45 a.m. for the morning ceremony and at 1:45 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony.

The procession will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. in the morning and promptly at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

After the Ceremony

Lunch is provided in the Recreation Center, Room 200 for ushers who are working both commencement ceremonies. 

Please return your name badge to Room 108 when you are finished for the day.
