Welcome to Kutztown University!

Your first step to success at Kutztown University starts with New Student Orientation. Orientation helps bridge the gap between your high school or previous college by preparing you for a great first year. By participating in New Student Orientation you will learn your way around campus, have a chance to get acquainted with other new students, and learn about the many programs and opportunities here at KU.

The CONNECTIONS Orientation Staff encourages you to take full advantage of all that CONNECTIONS Orientation has to offer, including meeting your CONNECTIONS Orientation facilitators and fully participating in all events.  We are excitd to welcome you to community, help ease your transition, and show you the many opportunities at KU.

CONNECTIONS Orientation is mandatory for all new students. Students who have paid the $200 advance registration deposit are eligible to register for orientation. To sign up, go to your MyKU, click on student services center, other academics, CONNECTIONS.

Family Participation

We strongly encourage family members to attend CONNECTIONS Orientation with their student.  The more you understand about the college experience, the more helpful you will be to your student during his/her transition.

Family members can expect to gain an increased familiarity with campus life at KU and be introduced to faculty, staff and students.  Information about residence life, campus safety and security, academic support services, student health care and tips on how to support students during their (and your) transition to college will also be provided at CONNECTIONS Orientation. The Parent/Family Program runs on the same day as the freshman orientation cycles. For a complete list of dates, click here.

What to do Before you Arrive

If there's a chance you'll be required to take a foreign language as part of your degree requirement at KU, you should plan to take the foreign language placement exam. The Department of Modern Language Studies utilizes a web-based placement exam (CAPE) in French, German, and Spanish: The test can be accessed from any Internet-capable computer, takes only about 20 minutes, and provides immediate feedback regarding the appropriate level of language placement.  Use any computer with Internet access, go to: liberal_arts/language/index.shtml,  click on "placement exam", enter login:  kutztown user , enter password: bears1 .  Please print a copy of your results and bring with you to orientation.
