FAQ - Intensive English Program

How do I apply? 

The application process is a little different for students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents and students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Visit the application page and select the correct electronic application for you. Click on the "Domestic Students" application if you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and the "International Students" application if you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

You can also complete a paper application for the Intensive English Program. After you complete the application, send it to our office and we will help you with completing the application process.

What will I study?

Before you begin your studies with the Intensive English Program, you will take a placement test that determines your level. In general, you will study English 21 hours per week, with classes including: Writing, Oral Communication, Grammar, Reading and Vocabulary, Academic Study Skills, College Culture and Communication, and Exploring KU Seminar.

How much does the Intensive English Program cost?

The cost of the Intensive English Program is $4,200 per semester. The program fee includes the cost of books. If students are studying part-time, the cost per class is $600.

Will you help me with immigration and my visa?

Yes! If you have specific immigration questions, please contact our office.

Do I need to take a test before I begin the Intensive English Program?

No. You will take a placement test when you arrive on the Kutztown campus.

Why should I study at Kutztown University?

Kutztown University has 9,800 undergraduate and graduate students. The student/faculty ratio is 20:1. This means that most university classes have less than 20 other students in them. You will get the attention you deserve!

Kutztown is a safe college town. Students enjoy access to nearby cities, such as New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Allentown, Reading, and Bethlehem. Students will also get to enjoy all four seasons - summer, fall, winter, and spring!

When you study in the Intensive English Program, most classes have fewer than 10 students. Everyone can participate and ask questions.

Who are my instructors in the Intensive English Program?

Your teachers are all professionally trained English language instructors. All of your instructors have their Master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Instructors take the time to understand students' needs and teach them the information and skills needed to be successful in university life and beyond. Instructors have weekly office hours that give students the opportunity to share their concerns and easily speak with their instructors.
