Dr. Joseph Harasta

Joseph HarastaAssociate Professor of Communication Studies, Dr. Joseph Harasta concentrates his instruction and research in public relations, with focuses in Integrated Marketing Communication, PR planning, and Public Opinion. He has taught journalism, public relations, and advertising at La Salle University, and was the Communications Discipline Chair at Rosemont College, also in Philadelphia. He has researched and developed public relations campaigns for professional sports teams, universities and colleges, as well as for-profit and non-profit organizations in various industries.

Dr. Harasta teaches courses emphasizing public relations planning, case studies, PR overview, PR writing, advertising, marketing, and crisis communication.

His academic background includes a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in public relations and advertising, both from Rowan University in New Jersey. He earned his doctorate in innovation and leadership from Wilmington University. Dr. Harasta also successfully completed the Accreditation in Public Relations process, sanctioned by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the nation's only certification program in public relations.

He has presented at PRSA conferences as well as both regional and national conferences in subjects from Generation Y public opinion formation, Town-Gown Relations, to student-run public relations and advertising firms.

In his spare time, Dr. Harasta enjoys golf, motorcycling, and small-scale farming on his East Fallowfield, PA farm. He is originally from South Jersey and contributes to Weird NJ magazine.
