Dr. Emily Cripe

Emily CripeDr. Emily Cripe earned her B.A. in Communication and Philosophy from Purdue University, and her Ph.D. in Communication from Arizona State University, where she taught for several years before coming to Kutztown University. She teaches courses in Public Relations, Health Communication, Organizational Communication, Communication Theory, and Research Methods.

Dr. Cripe studies organizational and health communication in her research. Her dissertation used both qualitative and quantitative methods to explore how social support helps encourage health behaviors in breastfeeding support groups. She has also worked on a grant exploring relationships between hospitals and organ donation networks and conducted a study of stay at home fathers and the identity challenges they face. General research issues include social support, work/life issues in organizations, and how health and organizational life intersect.

In her free time, Dr. Cripe reads, goes rock climbing, gets involved in art, and bakes. Travelling is also a hobby. She has ventured to 19 countries outside of the U.S. thus far. She also enjoys relaxing at home with her partner and their two cats.
