TESTING REQUIREMENTS AND APPLYING FOR CERTIFICATION

 ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • NEW: PECT* PAPA launched April 2, 2012

    In April 2012, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), Bureau of School Leadership and Teacher Quality and the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson launched a new testing program for Pennsylvania teacher certification: the Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests (PECT).  One of the tests in the PECT program, the Pre-service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA), is now the means of assessing reading, mathematics, and writing skills for undergraduate candidates seeking a state-approved Pennsylvania educator preparation certificate.  All undergraduate candidates for initial certification will be required to pass the PAPA as well as the test corresponding to the specific certification area.
  • Praxis I PPSTs ended April 1, 2012.

    Undergraduate candidates who have taken the PPST basic skills test prior to April 2, 2012 will have his or her PPST scores accepted by PDE. Candidates who took the PPST's and were not successful may retake the PPST's after April 2, 2012 until he or she is successful.

    All undergraduate candidates who have not taken or registered for a basic skills test prior to April 2, 2012 must take the Pre-professional Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA) provided by Pearson.
