ABA Fraternity
Professional Undergraduate Library Fraternity
Alpha Beta Alpha was founded at Northwestern State College of Louisiana on May 3rd, 1950. It was the first co-educational undergraduate library science fraternity to be established. The idea of such an organization was first discussed at a banquet on the campus in 1945 at which were present some forty library science students and librarians and several dignitaries. The first biennial convention was held in Natchitoches, Louisiana, March 15 -16, 1952.
The purpose of the fraternity to be exemplified by its members are:
- To maintain an abiding interest in librarianship
- To acquire a true professional spirit and a deep sense of responsibility to the profession
- To seek a sincere, sympathetic and full understanding of the work and problems of human beings
Any undergraduate Library Science major is welcome to join Alpha Beta Alpha. Dues are $15.00 per year. The group runs book fairs, plans field trips, and attempts to further the interest of library science in the community.
