Residence Hall Safety
- Never leave a common door propped open.
- Always lock your door when you leave your room or go to sleep.
- Report any unusual telephone calls to Public Safety.
- If you do receive a telephone call from someone you do not know, never give out any pertinent information (such as your room number, last name, etc.).
- Be aware of the location of emergency phones on campus.
- The Kutztown University residence hall system employs front entrance desk coverage. These upperclass students monitor traffic and acts as an information desk. Desk operations are 1 p.m. - 2 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; and 1 p.m. on Friday through 2 a.m. Monday.
- Golden Bear Village West utilizes Schuykill Hall's front desk for assistance.
- These students are not a security force. However, they have been trained to utilize both Public Safety and university "on-duty staff' when situations arise that warrant needed assistance.
- There are one to two on-duty building directors each night from 4:30 p.m. until 8 a.m., and two on-duty building directors each weekend from 4:30 p.m. on Friday until 8 a.m. Monday. The on-duty building directors carry cell phones. Each residence hall has an on duty Community Assistant from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. each night.: "On-duty" staff is trained to deal with crises intervention and confrontations. They call Public Safety for ANY possible violation of law or for assistance when warranted.
- The on-duty Community Assistant makes rounds approximately every 60 to 90 minutes until 2 a.m. The desk staff makes rounds during duty changes from 2 a.m. until 7 a.m. There are night duty reports that must be filled out by the on-duty staff in each hall and by each building director.
