2014 Rules:  Please make sure you read these rules and share the pledges with teachers, parents and students.

Intermediate-Level Events

Event A:  Cultural Presentation (5 to 8 students, more information coming soon):

Students present a pre-prepared cultural presentation on a cultural topic of their choice.  The presentations need to include both oral and visual components. The objective of this activity is to share significant cultural insights (perspectives) through the use of realia and/or authentic texts about cultural practices and products.  Texts may include sayings, poetry, song lyrics, or other cultural products.

Event B:  Taboorades (5 to 6 students, more information coming soon):

This event works on students' circumlocution abilities. It is a combination of Taboo and Charades. This event has been modified from last year to make use of concordance lists for each of the individual languages.

Event C:  GoAnimate (3 to 4 students, more information coming soon):

Students draw at random a scenario and pre-made GoAnimate4schools template. As a team they develop and record a dialogue to match the linguistic challenge of their scenario and the visual cues of the pre-made animation (students have to be quick-thinking as they have only 20 minutes to create their animation).

Advanced-Level Events

Event A:  Cultural Presentation (5 to 8 students, more information coming soon):

Students present a pre-prepared cultural presentation on a cultural topic of their choice. The presentations need to include both oral and visual components. The objective of this activity is to share significant cultural insights (perspectives), cultural practices and products.

Event B:  Defcondare (5 to 6 students, more information coming soon):

Defcondare is a team version of Balderdash® or Fictionary. Teams are given challenging and potentially unfamiliar words in the target language. For each word given, the team receives the accurate definition and must develop 3 more fictitious but plausible definitions. Taking turns, one team member from the opposing team must correctly guess the definition, in order to earn points for their team.

Event C:  Role-Play (3 to 4 students, more information coming soon):

Teams are each given a scenario and "characters" that they are to play. They are given 20 minutes to develop a 5 minute routine. As the preparation time is limited, much of the interaction and dialogue will need to be improvised.
