International Student Scholarships
Many of the international students at KU earned a scholarship when they were admitted based on their academic achievement and potential cultural contribution to campus. Scholarships only cover the cost of tuition and the amount of the award varies. Students are responsible for all additional tuition expenses not covered by the scholarship, and room, meals, and other fees. The scholarships will be reported to the Bursar around the time bills are sent every semester, and the bill will be reduced by the amount of the scholarship. International student scholarships are not visible in the Financial Aid section of MyKU.
When scholarship recipients begin their classes at KU, they must maintain certain grades to remain eligible and continue to receive the scholarship. The International Office will review students' grades and academic progress at the end of each academic year to ensure they meet the requirements. Scholarships will be awarded for a maximum of nine semesters. Get more information about the different types of international student scholarships.
Requirements for maintaining scholarships:
All recipients must remain in good F-1 student status and maintain good academic and disciplinary standing. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for all scholarships, with the exception of the Academic Excellence Scholarship, which requires a 3.0.
Applying for a scholarship - current students:
Please contact the International Office to find out if you might be eligible for a scholarship and for information about the application process.
Increase and appeal requests:
If you believe you should receive a higher level of scholarship, that your scholarship was terminated without good cause, or if you need the scholarship for more than nine semesters, you may appeal to the International Student Tuition Waiver Committee. Contact the International Office for more information about this process.
Summer tuition waivers:
A limited number of summer tuition waivers are available to international students. The deadline to apply is May 1. Complete and return the Summer Tuition Waiver application to the International Office.
