Tenure Track Position in Journalism
Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 10,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The University is located in the borough of Kutztown in a charming rural setting, and is within 20 minutes driving time of the diverse metropolitan areas Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and within 60 minutes of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Department of English at Kutztown University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position with an emphasis on Journalism beginning in Fall 2014. A secondary area in mass communication, public relations, writing for the workplace, or composition/rhetoric is highly desirable. Ph.D. or terminal degree in English, Journalism, or Communication preferred; Master's degree in English, Journalism, or Communication required. Professional experience also required, with news writing and editing digital media across platforms desired.
The 4/4 teaching load may include journalism, mass communication, public relations, writing for the workplace, and composition according to department needs and candidate's qualifications, with opportunities to teach and develop upper-level and graduate courses. A strong applicant will be an effective teacher with knowledge of Associated Press style, new media applications, close editing practices and substantial professional experience, a scholar with a committed research agenda, and a colleague ready to participate in departmental and university business. Three years of college-level teaching required. Successful interview and demonstration of teaching abilities required.
