Temporary Position in Photography
Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 10,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The University is located in the borough of Kutztown in a charming rural setting, and is within 20 minutes driving time of the diverse metropolitan areas Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and within 60 minutes of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Department of Fine Arts at Kutztown University invites applications for a full-time, temporary sabbatical replacement in Photography for Spring 2014. We seek a dedicated individual to teach introductory darkroom photo through upper-level photography courses within a Fine Arts major, including both film and digital photography. In addition to knowledge of the history, theory and contemporary practice of Fine Art Photography, the successful candidate should possess expertise with film cameras - including 35 mm, medium and large format; proficiency with digital cameras, digital workflow and image-processing software such as Photoshop6; professional studio lighting - continuous and strobe - and all aspects of making high-quality photographic gelatin-silver prints or archival inkjet prints. Experience with a range of film and digital alternative processes will be useful. Candidate must have an active record of professional activity such as exhibitions, publications, etc. in the field.
Teaching responsibilities: three courses per semester. Additional responsibilities include supervising student darkroom monitors and working with a technician to maintain black & white and color darkrooms. Successful interview and demonstration of relevant abilities required.
Requirements: MFA in photography, successful teaching experience beyond teaching assistant (2 years or equivalent professional experience required), a high level of professional activity and a strong exhibition record of fine art photography.
