CONNECTIONS Frequently Asked Questions

What is CONNECTIONS?

CONNECTIONS is the new student orientation program at Kutztown University. For first-year students, 15 one-day programs are held during June. Transfer student CONNECTIONS is a separate one-day program offered throughout the year. Optional Family programs are offered as well. There is also a graduate program offered to incoming graduate students - one each semester.

Will I receive my first choice of programs?

Programs are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Take note that the programs offered mid-June usually fill up first.

When are the programs?

There are fifteen programs in the month of June. The dates for CONNECTIONS programs can be found on the CONNECTIONS Calendar.

Will I receive  my class schedule during CONNECTIONS?

Yes. Freshman schedules are created based on the student's major.

What is an ARD?

ARD stands for Advance Registration Deposit. This is the $200 deposit that a student sends to KU after being accepted to indicate they plan to enroll as a student. Information about the CONNECTIONS program will be sent to students after the ARD has been received and processed.

What should I bring to CONNECTIONS?

Lunch is provided during CONNECTIONS. In order to receive a Student ID Card, identity verification is required with a driver's license, passport, or state ID. As a last resort, a high school picture ID is acceptable.

What if I need special accommodations?

The university is committed to achieving equal educational opportunity and participation for persons with disabilities, injuries, or other circumstances requiring accomodations. This commitment extends to the administration of programs, activities and employment practices. It is university policy to adhere to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Disability Services assists the university in providing reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities who are members of the university academic community or who utilize the university facilities. For additional services you can also contact the Disability Services Office of Kutztown University.

Is there housing on campus for CONNECTIONS?

If you are traveling a considerable distance or arriving for CONNECTIONS by bus and need accomodations for the night prior to your CONNECTIONS program, please contact the CONNECTIONS office. This is for students only. Any parent wishing to stay overnight will need hotel accomodations.

Do families interact with freshmen during CONNECTIONS?

Freshman CONNECTIONS and Family CONNECTIONS are two completely separate programs. Students and families will separate when the student arrives for check-in and will not come together again until the end of each program.

What if I have an emergency and cannot attend my cycle?

If there is an emergency, contact our office at 610-683-4088 and we will do our best to accommodate your needs to reschedule for an alternate session.

Can family members sit in during the academic advising session?

Family members may not participate in the scheduling of classes for freshmen. There will be student facilitators as well as an academic advisor present to help each student with any question he or she may have. Freshman CONNECTIONS is for the student only. Family members are encouraged to register for Family CONNECTIONS.

Where can I park during CONNECTIONS?

Incoming students can get dropped off or drive themselves to CONNECTIONS. No parking permit is necessary.

Can I arrive the evening prior to a program if I live far away/ arrive by bus?

Students who need to arrive early due to traveling circumstances should contact our office at 610-683-4088 to make arrangements. The bus schedule can be found at biebertourways.com. The student must arrive before 8:30 a.m. on the day of their CONNECTIONS experience and will not be permitted to leave until after 4:30 p.m.

When will I receive my housing and roommate assignments?

Housing and Residential Services complete the room and roommate assignment processes in the summer months. Students receive their housing roommate information from MyHousing.

Is my orientation experience complete once I attend June CONNECTIONS? 

There is a mandatory program called Fall CONNECTIONS that will take place on the Sunday before classes begin. Students will be sent reminders in August, and attendance is required.

What is Family CONNECTIONS?

Family CONNECTIONS is a program designed to assist family members of incoming freshmen in their adjusting to having a student enrolled at KU. Information and resources are provided. Please note that students do not attend with their parents. Family CONNECTIONS of offered in June only.

I am a transfer student, can I bring a guest to CONNECTIONS?

The program is intended for new students. Others attending along with a student will need to find other things to do, such as visit the Bookstore, library, and other campus offices during certain aspects of the program.
