What is CONNECTIONS?
CONNECTIONS is the new student orientation program at Kutztown University. For first-year students, a series of 15, one-day programs are held during June. Transfer student CONNECTIONS is a separate one-day program offered throughout the year based on the term of enrollment. Optional Family programs are offered as well in June.
Will I receive my first choice of programs?
Programs are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don't worry about having to wait for graduation from high school to attend CONNECTIONS! As a matter of fact, we recommend coming as early as possible! The sooner you attend CONNECTIONS, the better choice of classes.
When are the programs?
There are a series of 15 , one-day programs offered in the month of June for freshmen. Students select the date that best suits their schedule. Don't wait too long to register. Dates fill up very quickly, especially those at the beginning of the month.
Will I receive my class schedule during CONNECTIONS?
Yes. Freshman schedules are created based on the student's major.
What is an ARD?
ARD stands for Advance Registration Deposit. This is the $200 deposit that a student sends to KU after being accepted to indicate their intention to enroll. Information about the CONNECTIONS program will be sent to students after the ARD has been received and processed.
What should I bring to CONNECTIONS?
Lunch is provided during CONNECTIONS. Dress comfortably and wear comfortable walking shoes as you will be required to travel to various locations across campus. The weather may fluctuate and classrooms are air-conditioned, but may feel warmer or cooler depending on the number of people and your personal temperature preference. You may also consider wearing sunscreen for the times when you are outdoors. We discourage bringing personal items to orientation and are not responsible for lost items. If you misplace something while at CONNECTIONS Orientation, you can contact the Office of Public Safety at (610) 683-4002.
What if I need special accommodations?
The university is committed to achieving equal educational opportunity and participation for persons with disabilities, injuries, or other circumstances requiring accommodations. This commitment extends to the administration of programs, activities and employment practices. It is university policy to adhere to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. If you require an accommodation, we ask that you contact Kutztown University's Disability Services Offices no later than 2 weeks prior to your orientation date to arrange for these services. Is there housing on campus for the Freshmen CONNECTIONS events in June?
It is very important that you arrive at orientation on time! If you feel that there is any possibility that you may be late in arriving due to the distance you are traveling or the method of travel you are taking (ex. public transit), we encourage you to come the night before. For those students in this situation who need accommodations for the night prior to your CONNECTIONS orientation program, please contact the CONNECTIONS Office. This is for students only. No other guests are permitted. Any parent wishing to stay overnight will need to arrange hotel accommodations.
Do families interact with freshmen during the CONNECTIONS event in June?
Freshman CONNECTIONS and Family/Parent CONNECTIONS are two completely separate programs. Students and families will separate when the student arrives for check-in and will not come together again until the end of each program.
What if I have an emergency and cannot attend my cycle?
If there is an emergency, contact our office at 610-683-4088 and we will do our best to accommodate your needs to reschedule for an alternate session.
Can family members sit in during the academic advising session?
Family members may not participate in the scheduling of classes for freshmen. There will be student facilitators as well as an academic advisor present to help each student with any question he or she may have. Freshman CONNECTIONS is for the student only. Family members are encouraged to register for Family CONNECTIONS.
Where can I park during CONNECTIONS?
Incoming students can get dropped off or drive themselves to CONNECTIONS. No parking permit is necessary.
For the June 2014 Freshmen Orientation Program, parking is available in lots A6 - B-1, B-2 (across from the Baseball Fields).

Can I arrive the evening prior to a freshmen orientation program in June if I live far away/arrive by bus?
Students who need to arrive early due to traveling circumstances should contact our office at 610-683-4088 to make arrangements. The bus schedule can be found at biebertourways.com. The student must arrive by 8:00 a.m. on the day of their CONNECTIONS experience and will not be permitted to leave until after 4:30 p.m.
When will I receive my housing and roommate assignments if I plan to enroll in the fall semester?
Housing and Residential Services complete the room and roommate assignment processes in mid-July. Students receive their housing roommate information from MyHousing. We encourage students to contact their roommate as soon as they receive this information.
Is my orientation experience complete once I attend June CONNECTIONS?
There is a mandatory program called AlchoholEdu which all new students must take prior to enrollment. Information will be emailed during the summer with instruction on how to take the course as well as deadline for completion. Additionally, students are required to attend Fall CONNECTIONS which takes place on the Sunday before classes begin. Students will be sent reminders in August.
What is Family CONNECTIONS?
Family CONNECTIONS is an optional program designed to assist family members of incoming freshmen with the transition topics as well as useful resources provided by university offices. Please note that students do not attend with their parents. Family CONNECTIONS is offered in June only. There is a fee of $25 per person to attend. Students can sign their parents up through their MyKU account.
I am a transfer student, can I bring a guest to CONNECTIONS?
Yes, family members can attend. Programming is provided for parents and families while course advisement takes place. Students should plan on staying the entire time during transfer orientation. A typical day runs from 8:15 AM to 3:00 PM.
