John C. Green
Associate Vice President
Communications, Marketing and External Affairs
John C. Green has served as associate vice president at Kutztown University since 2009.
In his role at Kutztown University, Green is responsible for overseeing the Division of Communications, Marketing and External Affairs. The division includes the departments of University Relations, Marketing, Athletics, Sports Medicine, KU Presents!, Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center and Conference Services.
Green joined the staff at KU from a Gannett Company newspaper, The Journal News, based in White Plains, N.Y., where he served as a vice president for more than 15 years, most recently as its vice president for marketing, and previously as vice president of advertising.
During his time at Gannett, Green's notable achievements included partnering with USA Today and IBM to develop the largest education program in Gannett's history and developing the first-ever customer loyalty program for newspapers. Both set the standard for similar programs across the country. Green has received the "President's Ring" multiple times for excellence in marketing management from Gannett Co., Inc. The President's Ring is awarded annually to only ten Gannett employees worldwide. In 2004, he received Gannett's highest honor, the Best of Gannett Innovation Award, for outstanding leadership in marketing management.
Green has previously served on the board of directors for the Newspaper Association of America and the Advertising and Marketing Federation. He earned his bachelor's degree in radio, television, and journalism from Murray State University in Kentucky and his master of arts degree in mass communications from California State University in Northridge, Calif.
