Your Academic Advisor is a faculty member who will guide and advise you in matters such as selecting and scheduling courses, establishing and evaluating academic goals, understanding and navigating university policies and procedures, exploring academic majors and related careers, declaring a major, and connecting with other university programs and resources.
You are strongly encouraged to meet with your Academic Advisor often and utilize the range of resources and services available to you.
In order to find out more information about your assigned Academic Advisor, please refer to your MyKU account. Your Academic Advisor's name should be located under the "student center" tab. On the right-hand side of the page, a drop box labeled "advisor" will show you your assigned advisor's information.
All undergraduate Kutztown University students must declare a major prior to the completion of 39 credits. Transfer students with 39 or more transferable credits will not be admitted to Kutztown University in undeclared standing. Exceptions to the policy require the recommendation of the Chairperson of the Department of Academic Enrichment and the approval of the Vice Provost. Click here for the Declaring a Major Policy.
Exceptions to the policy may be grated for the following reasons:
- Unsatisfactory GPA to declare desired major
- Incomplete prerequisites
- Incomplete portfolio
- Missed application deadline
- Transferring to another institution
- Other (with specific explanation)
If you feel that any of the aforementioned reasons apply or you are experiencing a similar extenuating circumstance, you must complete the Request for Extension form. You will need to complete the top of the form, print it, sign the form, and submit it to the Academic Enrichment office (Rohrbach Library, 27). The completed and signed form may also be faxed to (610)683-4727. Approval for an exception to this policy will be based on the merits of your appeal.
You will be notified in writing regarding the status of your appeal.
Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a registration block being placed on your MyKU account for the next semester.
If you would like to meet to discuss any questions you may have, please call (610)683-4726 to schedule an appointment. Office hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday (summer hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm).
