Conference Information and Call for Proposals
This year's Department Chairs Conference will be held on the campus of Millersville University on May 14-15, 2014. During this two-day event, Chairs from across PASSHE will gather to exchange ideas and share knowledge in a collegial setting. There will be a $75 conference registration fee per person to help offset costs. Payment is not required to register for the conference, as Millersville University will bill each university at a later date. Please click here for lodging information.
Registration deadline is May 5, 2014. After this time, no refunds will be possible, but the registration may be transferred to another individual from the same university.
Call for Proposals: The organizing committee is currently soliciting proposals and session ideas from experienced Chairs from all campuses. Conference participants value most hearing from their peers. If you are interested in leading a session or would like to nominate a colleague, please forward your suggestion including name, contact information, and suggested role to Andy Arnold. Proposals and nominations received by March 28, 2014 will receive full consideration.
Presentation categories include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Lead a concurrent session
- Facilitate a discipline-specific session
- Serve on a panel of experienced chairs
Call for Case Studies: We are collecting case studies from Chairs that may be discussed by experts at the conference. Please email a brief (about half a page) example of a challenge with which you have dealt, written so it may be shared publically, to Cheryl Hochberg. Case studies received by April 21, 2014 will receive full consideration.
Department Chairs D2L Site: In advance of the conference, a D2L site has been created to allow chairs to talk with each other, and to help the planners understand what concerns chairs most. Users can post questions or concerns, suggest sessions, and submit case studies for discussion by experts. The site will remain a permanent communication tool and may be of particular use in facilitating collaboration between departments of common disciplines at different campuses. It also contains a section for conversation between heads of campus chair forums. Please request access by emailing your name and title to Cheryl Hochberg.
Volunteers: A call for volunteers to assist with other aspects of the conference will be posted soon.
